It was a testament to how successful the Kings medical staff was in 2022 that they could lose twice as many games to injury or illness and remain in the top 10 for total games lost. Led by Jas Randhawa, Senior Director of Athlete Health, and Joel Noland, Head Athletic Trainer, the Kings medical staff continued the group’s long-running success of minimizing time lost due to injury. Since the 2005-06 season, only the San Antonio Spurs have lost fewer games to injury or illness.
The confidence in the group’s track record was evident when the selected guard Devin Carter with the 13th pick in the 2024 NBA Draft. Carter suffered a torn labrum during the predraft process and eventually underwent surgery to stabilize the shoulder. Carter is expected to miss the start of the season.
Noland and his group are familiar with the injury as guard Kevin Huerter is also recovering from a similar injury sustained in March. Huerter is progressing but remained limited to start training camp.
